Miracles and Mysteries

I was asked earlier this week why I chose Reiki out of the many classes and certifications that I have taken and received. The answer that came to my lips immediately was, “I just really love it, it speaks to me.”

When I got home, I put more thought into why I love this healing art so much. I finally decided I love it because it is mysterious and miraculous. That bit of faith we feel, or want to feel, that there is something larger than ourselves in the universe is proved out. How else can I explain why there is a change in every person who experiences Reiki? A client visits who has precancerous cells and when she visits her physician the following week, there is no trace of the cells? A friend who has terrible anxiety comes in and leaves feeling calm and capable? A person in the ER waiting to be seen with a broken knee becomes calm and the pain is at a minimum?

I believe miracles happen and that the world is full of mysteries, with Reiki being one of them. No one knows exactly how the energy in the Universe travels through the Reiki practitioner, but it happens. I consider it a true mystery. What makes me a bit sad is that not everyone feels this way.

I was listening to a radio show tonight and the presenter made the statement, “…10 times out of 10, science wins; science saves the day!” As I listened to the rest of the show, I shook my head and smiled and felt a bit sad for her. How boring to not have that sense of expectation and delight at the unknown?

Albert Einstein is quoted as saying:

“There are two ways to live: you can live as if nothing is a miracle; you can live as if everything is a miracle.”

I choose the latter.
